The DMZ is good for birds

In thinking about how human infrastructure interacts with the natural world, we can also think about those places where humans don't go. Chernobyl, the DMZ, streets emptied by COVID lockdowns. How does cordoning off these spaces for reasons besides nature preservation create unexpected mini ecosystems? How do those ecosystems interact with the nearby built areas?
